Play Online Blackjack

One of the world’s favourite online casino games, blackjack has a history that dates back to 15th century France, when it was played on the streets by both gamblers in search of some exciting entertainment. The aim of blackjack is to beat the dealer by making a hand of 21, or as close to 21 as you can get, without going bust. There are a wide range of blackjack games available – see our ‘popular games’ section below for more details – but each offers plenty of fast-paced action.

When you choose to play blackjack games at an online casino, you reap the rewards in terms of convenience, choice and quality. There are games available around the clock, so you’ll never be stuck for a game or left queuing, and you can set the stake levels as low as $0.01, so there’s a game to suit every pocket. You also benefit from 24-hour support from our friendly and professional staff, as well as access to a number of special casino bonuses that are designed to improve and enhance your overall online gaming experience.

  •  1.History of Blackjack

This game didn’t always sport the name blackjack; it was originally known as vingt-et-un, which is French for the number ‘21’. Initially played using a single deck of cards, it moved from the streets to casinos across France. However, it didn’t increase in popularity particularly quickly because at that time, the payouts for every hand were the same: even money. There was no extra payout for a natural 21, and this only came about once the game crossed the seas to America.

Once ‘vingt-et-un’ hit American shores, the American players changed the rules slightly so that players would be paid out at 3:2 for a two-card hand that contained the Ace of spades and a black Jack. This natural 21 hand was named ‘Blackjack’ and as popularity grew, the old name was dropped and the game adopted its new name, blackjack: a name that highlighted the reason for its popularity.

As the game continued to spread and grew increasingly popular, new variations appeared, with slight additions to the rules to give the game some new and exciting twists. For example, the number of decks played with increased, in some games the dealer was permitted to peek at his cards, and in others players were allowed to switch their initial cards for an alternative starting hand.

And as modern technology evolved, blackjack moved online, creating even more possibilities than before. Progressive jackpots, turbo and multi-hand games came into existence, with all variations available around the clock, and for very low stakes if desired. The online casino also provided players with more rewards in the form of comp points, VIP programs and bonuses, as well as a Practice play option that uses virtual chips only – so no cash outlay is required.

  •  2.Odds

When you play any type of online casino game, you need to be aware of the house edge versus the player edge when choosing your game and making your bets. A golden rule to understand is that: the lower the payout for a winning combination, the better chance you have of achieving it. Higher payouts are awarded to bets that are more difficult to hit. Remember this and you’ll have a good start to improving your odds of winning when you play.

When you play online blackjack, you receive even money (1:1) for hitting all winning hands except for a winning insurance bet that pays at 2:1, or ‘Blackjack’, which pays at 3:2. Using the guidelines given above, as a player you know automatically that the odds of hitting ‘Blackjack’ are lower than the other winning hands, and this is why you are rewarded with a higher payout.

When it comes to fair payouts for casino games, online blackjack is considered one of the best games to choose as it has a low house edge in comparison to many other popular games. Some online game variations also include the option to play for progressive jackpots; these are triggered randomly and can reach some of the biggest prizes available online. Even if the jackpot has just been paid, it can still pay out again, so these are considered by players as some of the best games you can play. However, it is important to note that progressive games require an extra bet into the progressive side bet pot, so make sure you balance this with your bankroll to get the most out of your game.

  •  3.Game rules

The rules of blackjack are easy: it is a card game that you play against the dealer. Your aim is to beat the dealer’s hand with a hand of 21, or as close to 21 as possible, without going bust (exceeding the 21 points limit). If you manage to do that and the hand is better than the dealer’s, you win – if you go bust or the dealer’s hand is stronger, you lose.

When the game starts, you place your wager and then hit Deal to receive two cards. The cards are dealt face up and you go first. If you think you can improve upon your current two-card hand with an additional card, press the ‘Hit’ button. Continue to do this until you are happy with your hand – when you want to stop receiving cards, hit ‘Stand’ – just make sure you don’t go bust!

When you have completed your round, it’s the dealer’s turn. The dealer follows the same actions as you until their hand is complete. When his round ends, the two hands are compared, the outcome is decided and any winnings due to you are automatically added to your bankroll.

Note: Our online blackjack rules state that the dealer must draw to 16 and stand on all 17s – this is designed to be to the player’s advantage so bear this in mind when you’re playing your own hand.

  •  4.Popular Games

We are proud to offer an impressive number of blackjack games, available 24/7 at our online casino. These are a few of our most popular to help you get started:

21 Duel Blackjack: This 6-deck game is all thrills and spills; in 21 Duel Blackjack, you get the aid of two community cards to try and beat the dealer’s hand. Choose either the left card or the right card to enhance your own cards for more control over your game and better odds.

Blackjack Surrender: When you play Blackjack Surrender, you get an extra option that you don’t usually get in other games; the chance to ‘surrender’ your cards and forfeit half of your bet only if you don’t like the pair of cards you’ve been dealt. Once again, this gives you more control over your game.

Blackjack Switch: Using the standard rules as its basis, Blackjack Switch allows you to swap your initial two cards if you don’t like what you’ve been dealt and would like to give it another go – at no additional cost.

Lucky Blackjack: Play this unique game for the chance to enjoy a completely different blackjack game! When you play Lucky Blackjack, only the dealer receives a hand – so your role is to bet on the outcome of this hand only. Use the hexagonal spots to place your bets, then watch to see whether you’ve predicted the outcome correctly.

Pontoon: An eight-deck game, Pontoon allows you an extra hand known as a five-card trick, which is the second best hand you can get – and you must also hit on anything 15 or below.

Progressive Blackjack: Pay into the special side bet for the chance to hit a jackpot payout. Progressive jackpots are linked across several games and accumulate as the side bet is played; the amount currently on offer is shown on the jackpot counter on your screen. The jackpot is triggered at random, and although there is no upper limit to the payout, there is a minimum jackpot amount for when it resets.

  •  5.Game buttons information

There are various buttons in use when you play our online blackjack games; some are available all of the time and others show depending on the cards you hold in your hand. These are the buttons you need to know to play our online blackjack:

Double/Double Down: an extra, optional bet that costs the same as your initial wager, and enables you to draw one more card to see the outcome. It is only available at the start of a game when you have received your two initial cards.

Hit: use this button to receive another card to try and improve on your current hand.

Insurance: this optional bet is only available when the dealer shows an Ace. It costs half of your original bet and protects you if the dealer hits Blackjack. You lose the insurance bet if the dealer does not get Blackjack.

Stand: use this button when you are happy with your hand and want to end the round.

Surrender: if you choose this option, you give up half of your wager instead of playing the hand you have.

Split:this option means you can separate your pairs into two hands. Some games allow a re-split, while others do not.

Here are a few of the most common Blackjack terms used online, to help you understand the game and navigate our software (also see the games buttons section above):
